We work closely with parents / carers as we acknowledge the unique insights that they bring regarding their children’s educational strengths and difficulties. Following assessments, we offer comprehensive feedback on outcomes and the likely impact they may have for educational development. We provide personalised advice and recommendations for strategies and resources which can be used to support progress both at home and school.

Our work with parents/carers is underpinned by the guiding principles outlined in the Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Code of Practice: 0-25 (2014). We aim to provide parents/carers with relevant information regarding their child’s cognition and learning, empowering them to participate in discussions with educational professionals and support the child’s development and learning at home.

 

Assessment

Prior to any assessment, we ask parents/carers and schools to complete a questionnaire. This helps us to understand the child’s background/history. 

Following the assessment findings are reported back and outcomes and potential implications for future learning and progress are discussed.

 

Recommendations for strategies and resources that can be used to support children's educational development at home are provided.

 

Workshops

Parent workshops on topics requested by schools / parent groups can be arranged e.g.

  • Reading with children at home

  • Choosing books at the right level of challenge

  • Encouraging reluctant readers

  • Helping young people to acquire good study skills

  • Spelling Workshops

SEND5 are a team of qualified, specialist teachers who have trained in teaching and assessing dyslexic learners (both children and adults) with Specific Learning Difficulties and have many years of experience in the field of SEND.

SEND5 Provide:

  • Specialist tuition for dyslexic learners of all ages

  • Individualised teaching programmes for each learner which builds on their strengths & existing knowledge

  • Multi-sensory, cumulative, structured methods of teaching

  • Study skills support

  • Parent and teacher meetings to discuss ways to provide support outside of the sessions

  • Regular progress reports which are discussed with parents and teachers

  • Close as possible working relation with support staff

  • Personalised, multi-sensory intervention for children/young people in receipt of an EHCP

  • Up to date DBS certificates (police check)

£70 per session

All members of the Team are registered with the Information Commissioners Office and are DBS checked. All members of the Team have training and certificates on data protection, child protection and safeguarding

​

Every member of the SEND5 team is a qualified teacher with a specialist post-graduate qualification in SpLD (Dyslexia), and is a member of PATOSS. All have current experience working in schools and colleges carrying out individual assessments to identify learning needs, liaising with school/college staff and other professionals, reporting to teachers and parents, and providing advice and strategies to support the learning and progress of the individual.
